Remembrance

Yesterday was Remembrance Sunday, I went down to our local parade and ceremony to pay my respects, luckily, after a couple of days of raining, it was dry and not too cold. After the ceremony there was an extra feature, We have a pub in our village called John Brunt VC, it was named after a Captain in the British Army, who won the Victoria Cross the old pub sign had long time gone,so there was an unveiling of the new sign. A local Historian gave us some information about the man himself and the interesting thing was that a friend of this soldier was still in the village and said a few words; which i thought was touching.
This Mr. Brunt was quite a charecter apparently, he had won the Military Cross already "next the VC" he quoted, unfortunatly, he died in battle in Italy and never knew that he had been awarded this medal.
I have included some pictures that i thought would be of interest to this story.

  • the first to pictures are of John Brunt himself and the first pub sign
  • the unveiling and the new sign
  • the artist, the friend and the historian
  • John Brunt - his tombstone

I hope that you found t hat as interesting as i found writing about it.

Visited Windsor Castle recently, will post soon.

Oh dear!

The night before yesterday, my daughter had one of her Cyclical Vomiting attacks, she hadn't had one of these for quite awhile and came out of the blue. she is is her fifth year of this, she had her first attack after competing at an International Dance Fesival, thankfully she had done her bit and we were on the train home!!

Anyway, we trolled off to hospital after the usual battle with the GP on call system, who seem to disregard his condition and reckon that it will settle down, but it doesnt without intervention, we have possibly found something that will help her , but its very expensive and its a query wether, our GP will prescribe some.
the only medication she has at the moment, is an Oral solution, that when shes in full stream, it gets rapidly thrown back.

Shes home now,so hopefully shes over the worse. Strict dietry controls and rest for hannah now for a week or so and then hopefully back to normal.

Hi

For a long time i have been in terested in History, which is amazing really, because our history teacher at the time was really rather boring, just dictated and we scribbled bits of information down and that was pretty much it. He did however like to mention that we could 'titivate' our pictures, i think he got some enjoyment out of telling a school full of girls to colour in their work in this way!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyhow, like many other people, King Henry Vlll and his many wives have for a long time now fascinated me and for a while, wanted to visit places that have a connection with these ladies.

Well, last week i had the chance to visit Peterborough Catherdral, this building just happened to house the burial site of Henrys first wife, Katherine of Aragon, hence i thought i would continue showing you my findings, all of the burial sites of his six wives, not neccessarily in marriage order.

Third time lucky?

Third time lucky?
ive tired several times to start a blog, as everybody around me seemed to be doing so. After several attempts over the years and failing miserably thought i would try again.
Ive always been a fan of pen and paper and thought that if everybody used the digital, i want it now, bring me a coffee...now world...............things i enjoy would fade away into the nothingness of the online world.
Im sure that it wont, im hoping that it wont, as i remember the joy of school days the stationary shop on a saturday morning, buying that new eraser and the spiral jotter, for me to take home and write in. I have been known to buy writing paper and booklets and not even use them! This is one of the traits that i have successfully managed to pass onto my daughter; her desk is festooned with pens, pencils, rubbers and rulers that bend in the middle - reminds me of me.
Memories like that can never be replaced; therefore, here goes with what is more likely my fourth attempt, if im honest.
Dont expect perfect grammer, expect spelling mistakes and fits and starts with the updates, so here goes.............................................................
