Remembrance

Yesterday was Remembrance Sunday, I went down to our local parade and ceremony to pay my respects, luckily, after a couple of days of raining, it was dry and not too cold. After the ceremony there was an extra feature, We have a pub in our village called John Brunt VC, it was named after a Captain in the British Army, who won the Victoria Cross the old pub sign had long time gone,so there was an unveiling of the new sign. A local Historian gave us some information about the man himself and the interesting thing was that a friend of this soldier was still in the village and said a few words; which i thought was touching.
This Mr. Brunt was quite a charecter apparently, he had won the Military Cross already "next the VC" he quoted, unfortunatly, he died in battle in Italy and never knew that he had been awarded this medal.
I have included some pictures that i thought would be of interest to this story.

  • the first to pictures are of John Brunt himself and the first pub sign
  • the unveiling and the new sign
  • the artist, the friend and the historian
  • John Brunt - his tombstone

I hope that you found t hat as interesting as i found writing about it.

Visited Windsor Castle recently, will post soon.
